It's the dream final for partisan fans and purists alike as Manchester United face Barcelona in Rome's Olympic stadium (kick-off 7.45pm). United seek to top an outstanding season with Alex Ferguson's third European crown and the club's fourth. His team, even so, is likely to play on the counterattack - which would exploit the strengths of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo against a Barça defence weakened by suspension and injury. By contrast, the Catalans' manager, Pep Guardiola, takes his team to the final in his first year in charge. He's pledged to stand by the club's footballing philosophy and go in search of goals; and in Argentinian Lionel Messi and Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o, he has the strikers to add to Barça's tally of two European titles.
